Below we've showcased five fantastic educational toys that will have your toddler counting in no time.

Abacus

Abacus by Melissa and Doug - The Abacus has been around forever. Heck, I had one when I was a kid. Your child will learn math skills, patterns and color recognition all in one with this fabulous toy. This is an old time wooden calculator that kids really enjoy.

counting game

GuideCraft 1 2 3 4 5 Ring Counter - What a wonderful way for children to learn number recognition and counting skills. This ring counter allows your child to stack colorful rings onto posts. Each post is just long enough to fit the correct amount of rings that match the number painted below on the stand. Teaching counting doesn't get easier than this!

puzzle blocks

Anatex Number Puzzle Blocks - 20 colorful pieces in all, this number puzzle will have your child connecting number halves to create the whole number. Then your youngster can line the numbers up in order to show off his amazing number recognition skills. These hand painted colorful puzzle blocks are a wonderful way to peek your child's interest in learning numbers.

counting

Anatex Ten Counter - This exciting toy lets your child push colorful beads over several arched wires. Each wire is dedicated to a specific number from 1 - 10. As your child pushes the bead on wire number 1, he'll notice there's just 1 bead to push and he'll see the number 1 at the bottom of the arch. Soon he'll say ONE as he pushes that single bead to the other side. Your child will get the hang of counting quickly with this clever, learning toy.

counting game

Anatex Magnetic Gumball Counting Game - This maze will teach your child how to count from 1-10 while strengthening his hand-eye coordination. Your youngster will use the magnetic wand to guide a ball through the maze to the proper number cell. What a wonderfully fun way to learn numbers!

A Fun Number Game You Can Make Yourself

If you're crafty, how about making a game to teach your child about numbers. Cut out 15 paper squares or use 15 index cards and put number 1 on one card, 2 on another all the way to number 5, repeat three times so there are 3 cards with each number, 15 cards in all. Shuffle the deck and place cards number down in the center. Say, "1, 2, 3 Go!" and you and your child hold up any number fingers you choose from 1-5. Then flip over the top card. If the card number matches the number of fingers you or your child held out then that person gets a point. This game teaches your child counting and number recognition and is just plain old fun! Continue playing until your fingers get tired or it's snack time. Just remember, if you make learning fun your child is more likely to retain what you've taught and have a great time during the lesson.
