Battle of the Dragons Is Creative Play That Brings Families Together

Papo Toy Dragon

If you've never had a dragon war with your kids then you're missing out. Even though I have two girls, they have always loved dragons like the Papo Toy Dragon by Le Toy Van. When they were little they collected every type of toy dragon they saw, big scary ones, smaller ones with huge wings, ones with flames shooting out and more. We'd take all their dragons out and close our eyes and pick 5 each.

We made score cards, one with the word WINNER and one with a big X. We'd also get a dice and before every battle we would each roll the dice once. The two people with the highest numbers chose dragons to battle. To pick a toy dragon for the fight, we'd close our eyes and grab one from our dragon team then start the Dragon Battle!

During the Dragon Battle we'd make dragon noises and shout out the dragon powers our fighter was using like "He's shooting fire!" "He's taking out his massive claws!" "He's striking with his super-sonic tail!" We'd make our toy dragons fly and crash down on the other dragon. We'd use our creativity to have a wild dragon battle for about 2 minutes. Once the battle was over the non-battler would randomly flip over one score card near each dragon and whichever dragon got the WINNER score card won the battle and that winner got to keep the losing dragon as a prize.

We'd go round and round battling dragons until one person had them all. If you have lots of time you can start with 5 dragons each. If you want to play a short game choose as little as two dragons each. This is creative play at its best and it will encourage you and your kids to really use your imagination to come up with unique powers and battle ideas for your various dragons. You'll also do a lot of laughing and you'll be amazed at the crazy, wild things kids can come up with when it comes to dragon skills.

To take battling dragons one step further you can add a play castle and knights to the mix. Once person can use their dragon to attack the castle while the other uses the knights to protect it! This game allows everyone to play, because two people can protect the kingdom while one person sneaks their fire breathing dragon in for the attack!

If your goal as a parent is to bond with your kids while also enhancing their creativity then you'll definitely want to play Battle of the Dragons!
